Substance Use in Sport and HealthThe Drugs in Sport Committee is a standing committee of the SMCM which, provides leadership, educational and consultant services to members of the sport community to foster and maintain drug-free sport. Our specific objectives are set by, and developed through collaborations with our funding partners in this important initiative: Sport Manitoba, Manitoba Health, Manitoba Justice, Manitoba Family Services, and Manitoba Education and Training. The Committee recognizes that drug use affects many on personal and professional levels. Members of the sport community use recreational drugs, performance enhancing substances, and agents designed to mask detection of banned substances. Through education programs, resources, links to experts and other organizations, and positions statements, members of the sport community can receive information on Drugs in Sport. In so doing, protection at the personal and organizational levels will be afforded to athletes, coaches, and sport organizations. The Drugs in Sport Committee also publishes a newsletter, The Enhancer, which focuses on distributing information on various substances related to sport and performance, as well as topics on performance enhancing techniques and other options to using banned substances. |
